To all CTP Students, Graduates and Faculty, the following is a message to you from the Daily Bread Food Bank:

“Dear Friends,

Thank you for participating in our 2011 Holiday Drive! We are deeply grateful for your generosity and support of our efforts to end hunger in our communities. Your commitment and contributions make a huge difference and enable us to continue our important work.

Last year, there were over 794,000 client visits to Daily Bread Food Bank’s member agency food banks and meal programs. 36% of those client visits were children.

With your generous donation of 425 pounds of food, you have helped ensure that we are able to provide emergency food relief for those who are struggling with hunger in Toronto.

Warmest regards, Tamar Shostakovsky and Dayana Gomez, Development Coordinators”

Dear CTP Students and Alumni,

We are writing to tell you the sad news that Elisabeth Young-Bruehl died suddenly last Thursday, December 1. Given that difficult truth, we want to let you know some of the initial plans forming in the CTP community to honour Elisabeth and her work.

Many of you have been acquainted with Elisabeth’s perspective for some time- for instance she delighted us at the CTP last year with her evocative talk on the History of Psychoanalysis. That was an amazing evening- and because of Patricia Deans’ generous endowment to the CTP recently, we were able to able to invite Elisabeth to speak with us in a longer conversation. We were planning a weekend-long forum for the CTP to join with Elisabeth this February, in dialogue about Winnicott; about prejudice against children, and about Elisabeth herself.

In preparation for this event, some CTP learners had begun to immerse themselves in Elisabeth’s work- which is prodigious in its scope, courage, and depth. A small sample of Elisabeth’s contribution includes: her biographies of Hannah Arendt and Anna Freud; a landmark book on prejudices- The Anatomy of Prejudices; and also books explicitly considering the nature of love: Where Do We Fall When We Fall in Love? and Cherishment. As well, Elisabeth elaborated on her political vision in a blog entitled “Who’s Afraid of Social Democracy?” and she was very excited and proud to be publishing Childism- Confronting Prejudice Against Children in January 2012.

The CTP will continue our momentum to explore and draw from the richness of Elisabeth’s perspectives. The first of our CTP forums in 2012 to honour Elisabeth will be led by Peter Dales’ discussion of Cherishment during What is Psychotherapy Day on January 7. Please mark this date in your calendar.

The CTP community will also be honouring Elisabeth by making a donation in her memory to an independent, non-denominational, and inclusive organization that does work congruent with Elisabeth’s vision regarding mothers and children. Details will follow.

Finally, we’d like to share with you a touching tribute to Elisabeth: http://www.slowlovelife.com/

Best regards,

The CTP Planning Group for the Patricia Deans Endowment Symposium

Please see the following message from Maggie Fraser. You can contact Maggie at: maggiefraser@rogers.com

Hi Everyone:

Valerie Gerechter and I are looking for a third person to share an office with us. It is a beautiful space, newly renovated and soundproofed though as yet unfurnished. It is located right next door to The Centre.

It is complicated to organize the schedules of three therapists but we hope to be able to be flexible and to negotiate an arrangement that works for all of us. Keeping in mind that everything is up for negotiation, here are the times we have available at the moment:

Every morning before 10 am; Mondays: 2:30-6:30 and after 7:30pm, Tuesdays: after 12:30 except from 6-7pm, Wednesdays: after 5:30pm, Thursdays: before 1:30 and after 7:30pm, Fridays: before 11, between 4 - 6, after 7pm, Saturdays: all day except between 2-3, and Sundays before 12 and after 2pm.

The rent of the office is $950. We would ideally share this 3 ways. Sincerely, Maggie Fraser
