Office for rent at 400 Dupont

Please see the following message from Kusum Dole:

Office for Rent:

I would like to share my office with a single person. My lease does not permit me to rent out to more than one individual. It is available immediately.

The details are as follows:

Location: 400 Dupont Street, Toronto, ON (short walk from Dupont Stn)

Days: Monday through Friday

Time: During the days until 4PM

Rent: 250 + HST (pro-rated if you start mid-month)

Brief description:

-          The office is cozy (about 7’ X 9’) but does not feel cramped.

-          It is fully furnished. I will be adding a water filter jug and tea kettle at some point.

-          Pictures are available upon request

-          The office is located in a therapy centre. The website for the centre is www.400duponttherapy.com. There is a number lock for controlled access. A kitchen is available to therapists (small fridge, microwave, kettle, water jug, glasses, mugs, cutlery).

-          The doors are not sound proofed but there is white noise. I have not found noise to be an issue. The train passes by the centre. Although I can hear it, I have not found it to be disruptive.

-          Wireless internet is available for a fee

Message from Daily Bread Food Bank

To all CTP Students, Graduates and Faculty, the following is a message to you from the Daily Bread Food Bank:

“Dear Friends,

Thank you for participating in our 2011 Holiday Drive!  We are deeply grateful for your generosity and support of our efforts to end hunger in our communities. Your commitment and contributions make a huge difference and enable us to continue our important work.

Last year, there were over 794,000 client visits to Daily Bread Food Bank’s member agency food banks and meal programs.  36% of those client visits were children.

With your generous donation of 425 pounds of food, you have helped ensure that we are able to provide emergency food relief for those who are struggling with hunger in Toronto.

Warmest regards, Tamar Shostakovsky and Dayana Gomez, Development Coordinators”

Honouring Elisabeth Young-Bruehl

Dear CTP Students and Alumni,

We are writing to tell you the sad news that Elisabeth Young-Bruehl died suddenly last Thursday, December 1.  Given that difficult truth, we want to let you know some of the initial plans forming in the CTP community to honour Elisabeth and her work.

Many of you have been acquainted with Elisabeth’s perspective for some time- for instance she delighted us at the CTP last year with her evocative talk on the History of Psychoanalysis.  That was an amazing evening- and because of Patricia Deans’ generous endowment to the CTP recently, we were able to able to invite Elisabeth to speak with us in a longer conversation.  We were planning a weekend-long forum for the CTP to join with Elisabeth this February, in dialogue about Winnicott; about prejudice against children, and about Elisabeth herself.

In preparation for this event, some CTP learners had begun to immerse themselves in Elisabeth’s work- which is prodigious in its scope, courage, and depth.  A small sample of Elisabeth’s contribution includes: her biographies of Hannah Arendt and Anna Freud; a landmark book on prejudices- The Anatomy of Prejudices; and also books explicitly considering the nature of love:  Where Do We Fall When We Fall in Love? and Cherishment. As well, Elisabeth elaborated on her political vision in a blog entitled “Who’s Afraid of Social Democracy?” and she was very excited and proud to be publishing Childism- Confronting Prejudice Against Children in January 2012.

The CTP will continue our momentum to explore and draw from the richness of Elisabeth’s perspectives.  The first of our CTP forums in 2012 to honour Elisabeth will be led by Peter Dales’ discussion of Cherishment during What is Psychotherapy Day on January 7.  Please mark this date in your calendar.

The CTP community will also be honouring Elisabeth by making a donation in her memory to an independent, non-denominational, and inclusive organization that does work congruent with Elisabeth’s vision regarding mothers and children.  Details will follow.

Finally, we’d like to share with you a touching tribute to Elisabeth:  http://www.slowlovelife.com/

Best regards,

The CTP Planning Group for the Patricia Deans Endowment Symposium

Office Space for Rent

Please see the following message from Maggie Fraser. You can contact Maggie at: maggiefraser@rogers.com

Hi Everyone:

Valerie Gerechter and I are looking for a third person to share an office with us. It is a beautiful space, newly renovated and soundproofed though as yet unfurnished. It is located right next door to The Centre.

It is complicated to organize  the schedules of three therapists but we hope to be able to be flexible and to negotiate an arrangement that works for all of us.  Keeping in mind that everything is up for negotiation, here are the times we have available at the moment:

Every morning before 10 am; Mondays: 2:30-6:30 and after 7:30pm, Tuesdays: after 12:30 except from 6-7pm, Wednesdays: after 5:30pm, Thursdays: before 1:30 and after 7:30pm, Fridays: before 11, between 4 - 6, after 7pm, Saturdays: all day except between 2-3, and Sundays before 12 and after 2pm.

The rent of the office is $950. We would ideally share this 3 ways.   Sincerely, Maggie Fraser

Food Drive Update

Dear CTP Students, Graduates & Faculty,

If you have passed through The Centre reception area lately, you may have noticed that so far there is…not one full box of food, not two full boxes of food, but three full boxes of food!

You are a generous group!

We are already well on our way to meeting the original goal of collecting 100 lbs, and we have only been collecting food for one week. So I would like to raise the bar a bit: we still have a little over 3 more weeks to bring in our donations, and I know that some of you have not had a chance to do so yet.

So…let’s aim for 300 pounds of food.

You can bring in any of the (non-perishable) food items listed below. Or bring in your own favourites!  Or get together with your peers and make a joint food donation.

We are a creative community, so let’s see how far we can go!

Thank you, Nanette Mills

Some Suggested Food Items:

  • Baby food
  • Canned beans, vegetables
  • Canned fish, meat
  • Canned fruit
  • Cans/packages of fruit or vegetable juices
  • Canned stew, chili
  • Cold cereals
  • Long grain rice
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Peanut Butter

Donate Food at The Centre!

Dear CTP Students, Graduates, and Faculty,

You are invited to drop off any non-perishable food items at the Centre before December 9th, for donation to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Just look for the drop-box in the reception area the next time you are at the Centre.  Make a one-time donation, or consider bringing one food item each week when you come in for lectures, seminars, meetings, etc!

One grocery bag holds approximately 10 pounds of canned and packaged food.  I would like to challenge our community to collect a minimum of 100 lbs of food by December 9th.

The CTP will donate $200 in addition to the amount of food collected.

Below is a list of the items most needed.  If anyone prefers to make a financial contribution instead of a food donation, please contact the Daily Bread Food Bank at www.dailybread.ca

Thank you in advance for your generosity!  - Nanette Mills

Some Suggested Food Items:

Baby food; Cans of beans, vegetables, fish, meat, stews, and chili;  Canned fruit, and/or cans or packages of fruit juices;  Cold cereals; Rice; Macaroni and cheese; Peanut Butter.
